The 7815 is a fixed 15V positive voltage regulator IC from the popular 78xx series. It provides a stable 15V output for a wide range of input voltages and is widely used in power management sections of electronic circuits. Housed in the TO-220 package, this IC is capable of delivering up to 1.5A of output current with built-in protection features like thermal shutdown and short circuit protection.
A heatsink is recommended when the IC is used in applications with significant current loads, as heat dissipation can be substantial. The IC only requires two external ceramic capacitors (0.33µF at input and 0.1µF at output) to maintain voltage stability and suppress transients.
